Urban Decay's Alice in Wonderland Palette

If you've seen my last Sephora haul on Youtube, you know I purchased the coveted Alice in Wonderland Palette by Urban Decay.  When this palette was first launched, I held out thinking I have the Book of Shadows vol II so why would I need this.  As we all know, in today's society it is a strenuous battle of "wants" and "needs".  When shopping last weekend, I saw it in Sephora.  Yes, many of the colors are in the Book of Shadows vol II, and some are from the Ammo palette, but some were shadows I didn't have.  This is also a makeup collectors item, and the packaging completely drew me in.  The top of the palette opens up to reveal a beautiful pop-up scene of Alice walking through a forest of mushrooms.    For anyone who loves Urban Decay, Tim Burton, Disney, or Alice in Wonderland, this is an absolutely MUST have this palette.  But there are many of us asking the question: Which of these shadows are the ones I don't have? Here is a rundown of each shadow and its dupe:

(16) Eyeshadows:

-Underland (Flash)
-Alice (Painkiller)
-Oraculum (Baked)
-Queen (Last Call)
-Chessur (Chopper)
-White Rabbit (Polyester Bride)
-Wonderland (Maui Wowie)
-Curiouser (Grifter)
-Muchness (X)
-Mushroom (Mushroom)
-Midnight Tea Party (Midnight Cowboy Rides Again)
-Vorpal (S&M)
-Absolem (Homegrown)
-Drink Me Eat Me (Sin)
-Mad Hatter (Twice Baked)
-Jabberwocky (Oil Slick)
-Travel-size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero and Flipside
-Travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion

The eyeshadows are wonderful.  If you haven't used Urban Decay before, be warned that none of these are matte eyeshadows. They all have a shimmer to varying degrees from very subtle to large chunks as in Midnight Tea Party.  Some people were complaining that these are best selling eyeshadows that are renamed and not new colors, but if you are someone like me, who falls in love with a particular shadow, why not have an extra?  Considering that most of Urban Decay's single eyeshadow run you about $18, you can get so many of them in this palette for $50.  The eyeshadows have wonderful payoff, and used with the primer potion, stay on all day.  I love the consistency of all of Urban Decay's shadows, so although this was an impulse buy for me, I am not regretting the purchase.  I love having all of my favorite colors in one place, easily accessable and ready to be used together.  I do wish that Urban Decay would have come out with some exclusive colors specifically for this palette, but overall I think it's worth the price, and I'm glad I bought it.

So my questions for you are:
What do you think of this duped palette?
Did you buy it? If so what do you think?
Do you own any of the other Urban Decay palettes?

I think the pallet is amazing! I love the packaging and think it is the cutest idea to rename the colors for the movie. I haven't bought it, but not because I don't want it. I just don't have the money yet. As for the other Urban Decay palettes, I don't have any but buy their colors in singles. The packaging for their stuff is always neat, I have tons of their Deluxe Eyeshadows. They have a new thing called Stardust eyeshadow, you should check them out. I wonder if they are any good.

I think the Alice in Wonderland palette was a good idea.. but it could have been MUCH better. Does Urban Decay honestly think they can continue and release these book of shadows palettes with the same exact colors over & over? They're coveted now only because of the value (& cute factor!).. but if they want to continue selling these palettes they're really going to have to start changing it up a little.
I didn't buy it.. but I'm seriously thinking about it. I had the Book of Shadows I, but got rid of it. The only other Urban Decay palette that I have now is the Ammo palette. I guess my lack of Urban Decay palettes gives me enough reason to buy the Alice in Wonderland one!

What do you think of this duped palette?
I think the palette packaging is really unique, but I'm not too crazy about the colors. Like you said, a lot of the colors are dupable for their other palettes. But honestly, if you're a die-hard alice in wonderland fan it's worth it, the packaging is too cute to pass up! If you're a fan of alice in wonderland check out tarinatarantino.com she carries a line of jewelry based on alice in wonderland, they're really really cute.
Did you buy it? If so what do you think?
I haven't bought it yet =(. I've been caught up with midterms and school work =(((.
Do you own any of the other Urban Decay palettes?
I have the book of shadows vol.1 and their baked palette.

I have very few urban decay products but definitively plan to have more in the near future! Of course I was considering the Alice BOS (don't have any BOS), I guess I'll see if I'm lucky enough to have one in my hands haha

I am so in love with this palette. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anywhere. I didn't hear about it until it was already pretty much sold out everywhere.

i love urban decay, but i can't handle the super chunky glitter ones! anyone have any tips on making the glitter stick to your eyelids and stay off your face?

I NEED to purchase this. Even though yes, many of the colors are dupable, like you said that the eyeshadows run for 18 dollars a piece. A reason why I love palettes is because you get to try so many different colors for a fraction of the price, who knows you could find your HG! I did in one of the urban decay palettes, I discovered Blunt (now my favorite eye shadow)
(this is AVONwithKaley from youtube btw)

I've been debating back and forth about purchasing this palette just like you. I actually don't have but one Urban Decay palette. I might get this though. I have to wait until my next paycheck in a couple weeks though so let's hope I can still find it then!

Ouch! I didn't know that UD shadows ran $18.00 a piece now! I have Oil Slick; I've had it for years. I don't recall what I paid for it, but I know it was a lot less expensive than that. It's an awesome shade!

I think if you have the money, an UD palette is a great investment. My sister has the one with the gun on the front (I am so out of the loop! I forget what that book is called! LOL!), and she uses it daily. I was ogling it the last time I was at her house.

The Alice in Wonderland palette is too cute! I'm jealous that you got it! :D

I don't own anything from urban decay hopefully someday but I would totally buy this it has lots of colors not like my makeup that I worked soooo hard to buy it and it only had 3 colors and costed me 150 that was back when we were ok with money. I was totally disapointed with my buy. I still am. I could've buy something from urban decay, spell cosmetics or mac but I hadn't even heard of this before. Now it's too late. I want to get this really really bad. Hopefully soon.

I thought that it was really a book when I used to hear about girls saying my book of shadows. Je je je I'm a dork. I thought it was like the series of charmed. I think I never went out much until like I was 19 I heard what it really was but didn't even knew Urban decay, Mac, or spell cosmetics existed. I thought only drugstore makeup was the only one in the world until I met YouTube. I'm such a dork.

I love the packaging, and I was almost tempted enough to try and get ahold of one of these palettes, but...I am such a neutral person I would just have absolutely no use for most of these shadows. I don't have any urban decay shadows YET but I am expecting Secret Service in the mail from ACW. Maybe if I had more personal experience with the brand I would be more confident with the investment in this palette.
I like the names of the shadows a lot, its a very cute palette but I just don't think I could bring myself to purchase it.

The Alice and Wonderland Palattete does have really nice packaging which does make me want to buy it but then again, the shadows are somewhat duped. And I don't like getting the same shadows again and again plus you can get the same type of colour but with a different brand so what's the point of getting the whole book. But now Im not so sure, should I get it or shouldn't I? Anyway, I don't know if you're going to reply but, I am a NEW BIG fan of yours and I love your tutorials, they are so detailed and better then some other makeup guru's so I guess your my fave close to another one. And I know that you are having a contest and that If I comment I'll automatically be put in the running and I also commented about my favourite Valentines day.
I just wanted to say, sorry about not making a video response because my mum won't let me put pictures of myself on the internet. :( I do however have a request: Do you think you can do a dark kind of black sexy look? And please Im begging, not to use a lot of makeup because I only have 3 colouur eyeshadow and 2 lipglosses. Thanks! I have Black Glittery, Grey Matte and White Shiny. Thanks!Oh and can you do a whats in my closet and room tour? Your sooo pretty and great at makeup tutorials! Thanks again. Love FruityMarshmellow81 - Blog username and YOutube. Thanks!

I think the packaging is so adorable and I think the colors are absolutely gorgeous. This is my first Urban Decay palette and I do not regret paying the money for it. LOVE IT!!!

At first I really wanted this because of the packaging. I wish the colors were not mostly dupes, I already have both eyeliners (and multiples of zero) and 2 UDPP and the Ammo palette. So I decided though the packaging is awesome that i did not need the palette nor would I probably use it.

Anonymous said...

I like the AIW theme but to me I didn't want to spend &50 for it. I have a few things from UD like the UDPP and the get baked palette a few liners but thats about it. I am going to be buying more UD liners but as for the shadows I'm not all that into them. To me they are nothing special and the one that I love I have so?? yeah..lol I might change my mind on a shopping spree, you know how us girls get when we have money in out pockets. Gotta love tax time..lol

Great palette. Still wondering if i should get it our not. One hand says yes it's a great way to try UD the other says they're all so shimmery and I have too many shimmery eyeshadow hahaha. The packaging though look so cute.

I've never purchased an urban decay palette, but they all seem so pretty! And in the future, I can honestly say that I will buy at least one ;). But I don't think this would be the one I would buy, It just doesn't seem too unique to me. :(

Beatriz said...

i might have purchased this if it weren't for the price. because i dont own any of the book of shadows i don't care about the dupes but the PRICE!

marie.tieu said...

What do you think of this duped palette?
i think that this palette is absolutely gorgeous and that it is perfect for anyone that needs a lot of different colored eyeshadows but want to save money cos it's so worth with how much you're getting. Most of the colors are very popular as well so might as well go for this than the other ones.
Did you buy it? If so what do you think?
No i didn't buy it cos i don't have the money :( but i REALLY want it!
Do you own any of the other Urban Decay palettes?
I had the ammo palette, but i found that some of the colors were packed with glitter and i only used the neutrals so i returne it =/
